If you have a new baby for the first time, you really should:
  • read "healthy sleep habits, happy child" by weissbluth   
  • sleep when the baby sleeps   
  • read dr. sears "the baby book"   
  • buy The Rookie Mom's Handbook   
  • learn to swaddle. now   
  • read "the baby whisperer" by tracy hogg   
  • get a sling or baby carrier (if the baby likes it)   
  • not let the sleep books make you crazy   
  • watch for signs of ppd and tell someone if you suspect you have it   
  • trust your instincts   
  • listen to music with your baby   
  • enjoy it   
  • choose a great name.   
If you have a new baby you should always:
  • figure out a way to take a shower   
  • let yourself love unconditionally   
  • get out of the house at least once a day, even if it's just a stroller walk around the block   
  • tell your baby you love them as many times as the thought pops into your head   
  • take care of yourself   
  • if you can't get anything else done all day at least be proud that you brushed your teeth   
  • answer your baby's needs - it's not the same as spoiling   
  • respond to your baby's cries   
  • plan your day around an activity   
If you have a new baby you should never:
  • be afraid to ask for help   
  • eat a whole box of Krispy Kremes   
  • talk only to your baby   
  • stay in the house all day long   
  • let anyone tell you you are spoiling your baby by loving them   
  • follow the advice of sleep trainers like ferber, weissbluth, hogg, etc   
  • feel like your instincts are wrong   
  • listen to people who don't believe in sleep training. do you want to have a life, or not?

If you have a new baby you might like this about it:
  • a feeling of deep love you can't explain to a non-parent   
  • very tiny and cute   
  • fun to put clothes on   
  • tiny baby hands and feet   
  • that first smile. gas or no gas   
  • wrinkly elephant knees   
  • the sounds they make when drinking a bottle or nursing   
  • the way their little fists are curled up, especially when they're sleeping   
  • the fuzzy hair   
  • the first giggle   
  • thigh rolls!   
  • wrist rolls!   
  • "now i understand what my mom was talking about   
  • the way their little arms don't reach above their heads when they stretch   
  • knowing you can kiss the heck out of them and they won't say "oh, mom!"   
If you have a new baby you won't be happy to know that:
  • make peace with poop   
  • sleep will be hard to come by   
  • your life will never be the same   
  • you will have little or no time for yourself   
  • your body changes forever   
  • you will get all sorts of baby body fluids on you at least six times a day   
  • your vacations will have to change as much as your life has, but it's still as much, if not more, fun

  • all of your priorities change   
If you have a new baby then you could enjoy similar things/activities:
  • banging your head against a wall repeatedly   
  • postnatal yoga classes   
  • ergo carrier   
  • visiting new parks around your neighborhood   
  • mommy movies, some theatres have them on specific days, so look around   
  • pushing strollers on your daily walk or run   
If you want to really have a new baby you should have those things:
  • lots if intercourse   
  • patience   
  • diapers   
  • friends   
  • whole and natural foods   
  • 800 mcg of folic acid daily   
  • medical insurance   
  • a sling or wrap or something, anything that the baby likes   
  • lots of love, that's all it takes sometimes!   
If you have a new baby and you want to push the limits, try to:
  • get out of the house early in the morning!   
  • take a weekend away with another family.   
  • take the baby to a yoga ashram for a weekend   
  • get through your to-do list   
  • cook a wonderful dinner for your family   
When you have a new baby it is not the same as ... because ...:
  • a dog... the baby cannot be left at home alone   
  • anthing you have known before...because, just because, you'll see, but it's the best thing in the world you can do   
  • babysitting...... it's all up to you now 24/7, but oh... wonderful!

  • suddenly having a conjoined twin...you are constantly attached, even when you aren't   
  • being a kangaroo...your still attached
